Outstanding Wrestler Award This is the team's most significant individual award. It is presented at the end of the season to the wrestler whose excellent performance stands out above others on that year's team. Performance, however, is not the only criterion; as with all special awards, sportsmanship and behavior in general are of paramount concern. A wrestler cannot receive the Outstanding Wrestler award unless his performance is coupled with the utmost in sportsmanship, leadership, loyalty, dedication and determination, unselfish behavior, and outright enjoyment of the sport. |

Most Improved Wrestler Award This individual award is also performance based, but the recipient need not even have achieved a winning season's record to qualify. Because wrestling requires such intensity and focus to succeed, it is recognized that hard work and determination can result in significant improvement in ability, even without defeating one's match opponents. We would appreciate your judgment as to which of our wrestlers demonstrated the most improvement, either judged from their apparent ability last year, or at the beginning of this year. Just as an experienced wrestler can improve dramatically from one year to the next, a novice wrestler can improve dramatically from the beginning of the season to end. Either choice is legitimate. As with all individual awards, however, demonstration of the virtues of loyalty, dedication, determination and hard work are prerequisites for receiving this award. |

Best Attitude Award Stepping back from the performance based awards, the Best Attitude award is exactly as it sounds - this awards is intended for the wrestler whose behavior through the season consistently reflected a positive, motivated outlook, regardless of successes or failures. More than many other sports, wrestling is about attitude, its about not giving up, its about maintaining the drive to prevail even when you're down at the bottom of the third period. Some wrestlers, regardless of their win/loss record, always come to practice and matches with a positive attitude, intent on learning, doing better, and having fun, and their attitude contributes to the overall team attitude. These young men, whether they have a winning record or a losing record, are the wrestlers in contention for this award. |
